Industry Experts

The technical program for 2017 will include:

Top Notch Operations with Ron Coleman. As a follow-up to his succession planning presentation delivered in Saskatoon, Ron will explore systems, processes, and management strategies to ensure that your contracts are completed on time, within budget, and with quality standards met all while building a stronger relationship with your client.

Practical Strategies to Make Your Next Project Profitable with Matthew Nicholas of Revay and Associates. Experts from Revay and Associates have presented at the past two Conferences on claim and change order management. This year’s presentation will focus on project management techniques that can save time and costs of on-site construction.

The National Insulation Association Update with NIA president Darrel Bailey and EVP/CEO Michele Jones. Our neighbours to the south will provide an overview of current and planned NIA activities.

Where in Canada is Steve Clayman? TIAC’s director of energy efficiency will provide an update on his outreach activities and involvement in related associations including ASHRAE, the Canadian Healthcare Engineering Society, and the Canadian and Alberta Energy Efficiency Alliances. Learn about the opportunities available to you and your organization through these partnerships.

Networking Opportunities

The program always includes networking opportunities to connect with friends new and old.

Sectional Meetings. The contractor, manufacturer, and distributor business meetings will provide a forum for attendees to engage in sector-specific discussions. Summaries of these meetings are presented to the Board and your recommendations and ideas are what drives TIAC activity plans.

Manufacturer and Distributor Reception. Kick-off your Conference experience at the Manufacturer and Distributor Reception. Be greeted by your current Board members while you enter the historic Imperial Ballroom. Wine, dine, and dance.

TIAC’s Night on the Town. In addition to being an architectural triumph and one of the Seven Wonders of the Modern World, the CN Tower is also known for its world-class dining and entertainment experiences. The 360 Restaurant includes a 9,000-bottle wine cellar that won Guinness’ World’s Highest Wine Cellar designation. Cheers your TIAC colleagues at 351 m above Toronto’s downtown.

Golf at The Royal Woodbine Golf Club. Royal Woodbine was very cunningly designed by Dr. Michael J. Hurdzan and plays 6,446 yards from the tips, winding its way up and down both sides of the Mimico Creek. Remarkably, water comes into play on all of its 18 championship holes. At Royal Woodbine you will need every club in your bag to successfully navigate this superbly conditioned Toronto golf course.

President’s Dinner and Dance. We will wrap up the Conference with the traditional President’s Ball. This year’s entertainment will be provided by Ascension Groove, a local Toronto band that has performed on Broadway and on luxury cruise lines, and has had overseas chart successes.

For Fun

Toronto is known for its fun! With so much to do in Toronto, we have kept the formal programming light to ensure that your spouses and families can do all of the things they really want to do while in the city.

Here’s what we do have organized:

Derek Edwards, Award-Winning Comedian. Identifying himself with the ordinary working guy, his comedic gift is making the ordinary extraordinary. A regular at the Just for Laughs Festival, where he was recently hailed as a “virtuoso at the peak of his performance,” Derek has performed from Las Vegas to St. John’s, and in most of the cities in between. He is the only Canadian winner of the prestigious Vail International Comedy Competition, is a two-time Gemini nominee, and has been nominated five times as Best Standup Comic at the Canadian Comedy Awards. His numerous TV credits include Just For Laughs, CBC’s Comics, The Debaters, and Laugh out Loud.

Distillery District Walking Tour. Join celebrated Toronto historian and tour guide Bruce Bell for a fascinating tour of historic Gooderham and Worts factory complex. Once the world’s largest whiskey distillery, this incredible compound with over 45 original buildings was first built in 1832 and continued to make whiskey until 1990. Today, The Distillery District (as its now known) is filled with art galleries, cafes, restaurants, stores, and live theatres.

Paint Nite. Cocktails, conversation, and creativity. Need we say more?

We recommend that delegates pick up a Toronto CityPASS (www.citypass.com/Toronto), which includes access to the CN Tower, Casa Loma, the Royal Ontario Museum, Ripley’s Aquarium of Canada, and either the Toronto Zoo or Ontario Science Centre. Don’t forget to check out what’s happening at the Air Canada Centre, Rogers Centre, and the Sony Centre for the Performing Arts.

Don’t forget about all of the professional sports teams Toronto has: The Blue Jays host the Twins, the Argos host Calgary, and Toronto FC hosts Philadelphia and Montreal.

Insulation Energy Appraisal Program

For the first time ever, TIAC is offering the Insulation Energy Appraisal Program. It will be held August 22 and 23 at the Fairmont Royal York Hotel.

The Insulation Energy Appraisal Program (IEAP) is a two-day course that teaches students how to determine the optimal insulation thickness and corresponding energy and dollar savings for a project. The program was designed to teach students the necessary information to give facility managers a better understanding of the true dollar and performance value of their insulated systems.
