Bienvenue à Montréal!

By Robin Baldwin

Your TIAC board is excited to wish you all bienvenue to Montreal for the 57th Annual TIAC Conference. Hot on the heels of the 2018 Conference, held deep in the Rocky Mountains, this year’s conference will bring you to the heart of a world-renowned Canadian metropolis. Whether you are looking for culture, nightlife, history, art, shopping, or the thrill of roller coasters, Montreal has it all… and more.

The conference will be hosted at the Centre Sheraton Montreal Hotel, which is located a short, one-block walk from Saint Catherine Street, one of Montreal’s shopping, dinning, and nightlife hubs. A rate of $199/night has been booked at the Sheraton. Remember to book early because August will be busy.

The 2019 TIAC Conference will kick-off on Saturday, August 24 with the Manufacturer and Distributor Reception. Reconnect with old friends and introduce any first-time attendees to the TIAC family.

Sunday’s program will feature several invited speakers, as well as the contractor, manufacturer, and distributor breakout sessions.

The spousal/family program will also be running this day. The local planning committee is working with Montreal Tourism to offer MTL Passports to our participants—one price, 28 attractions, unlimited public transportation. A few group outings will be planned, so watch TIAC’s eZINEs for membership polls on which activities to build into the schedule. Visit www.passportmtl.com to start picking your favourites.

To ensure we can plan age-appropriate activities for those of you bringing your children, we ask that you register by July 1.

On Sunday evening we will be whisking you off to the Old Port where you will get to eat your way through every corner of Montreal without leaving your seat. From boulevard Saint Laurent and the legendary Schwartz smoked meat, to the fresh in-season delights found at Le Marché Jean Talon, to the international-influences of Chinatown and Little Italy, this evening will showcase the unique culinary tapestry that make Montreal so Montreal. Not wanting to call it a night when TIAC’s event is over? Head out onto the cobbled streets of the Old Port and take in more of what Montreal has to offer.

Monday morning will include more presentations, followed by TIAC’s traditional golf tournament at the Club de golf de l’Île de Montréal. According to the golf course’s website, “The Ireland Course reflects the personality and the character of architect Pat Ruddy as well as his country of origin. Proposing a par 71 of 6,820 yards of greenery and dunes, this course, typically Irish Links, is unique in Canada. You will not forget this spectacular layout.”

Sunday evening is a night off. Hit the streets and explore the city. We recommend you download the official Tourisme Montréal app to help you get around—learn more at https://www.mtl.org/en/plan/applications.

As we reach Tuesday, the last day of the Conference, join us for the final morning of presentations, including a sneak-peak at the 2020 Conference program scheduled for August 12-15 in Whitehorse, Yukon!

Take the Insulation Energy Appraisal Program: Last Chance
August 23-24, 2019

The Insulation Energy Appraisal Program (IEAP) is a two-day course that teaches students how to determine the optimal insulation thickness and corresponding energy and dollar savings for a project. The program was designed to teach students the necessary information to give facility managers a better understanding of the true dollar and performance value of their insulated systems.

During the course you will learn how to conduct a facility walkthrough, use the 3E Plus® software, utilize infrared cameras during inspections, understand steam efficiencies, analyse and complete an appraisal spreadsheet, and present your customer with a final report that outlines the potential savings and emission reductions that mechanical insulation can provide.

Your TIAC board is excited to welcome you to the 57th Annual Conference. On se voit en août! •
