By Rob Bertram, President, TIAC

As I hand over the presidency of TIAC to my colleague and friend Mathieu Hamel, I’ve taken some time to reflect on all that we’ve accomplished together over the past couple of years. It has truly been an honour to serve this incredible organization, and I leave my role deeply proud of the progress we’ve made—not only as a board, but as a community of industry leaders.
When I first joined the board of this organization, I believed strongly that clarity of purpose, structure, and values would be key to strengthening our impact—and I’m thrilled to say that we’ve made major strides on all those fronts.
Together, your Board of Directors:
- Successfully hired our Director of Industry Affairs, Tristan Bertram—an incredible addition who has already made a meaningful impact on the achievement of the goals listed below and who will help further our strategic goals and member engagement.
- Defined TIAC’s Core Values, grounding our decisions in what matters most.
- Clarified our Mission, Vision, and Purpose, now proudly displayed on tiac.ca.
- Implemented a Strategic Plan to guide our path with focus and accountability.
- Established clear committee outcomes and board role descriptions to support a more empowered, aligned leadership team.
- Worked to enhance member benefits, ensuring TIAC delivers meaningful value.
- Secured a grant to build awareness of our trade, help recruit new talent, and invest in the future of our industry.
Every one of these achievements has been in alignment with the strategic direction we set—anchored by our core values and mission and driven by a shared commitment to excellence in mechanical insulation.
I want to thank each of my fellow board members for their dedication, vision, and tireless contributions. It’s been a privilege to collaborate with such a capable and passionate team. Watching the board grow in capacity and confidence has been one of the most rewarding aspects of this role.
To our members: thank you for your trust and engagement. Your support and feedback have helped shape the work we’ve done, and I’m confident that TIAC is better positioned today to serve the industry’s evolving needs because of your involvement.
As I pass the torch to Mathieu, I do so with full confidence in his leadership and in the strength of the team that surrounds him. The momentum we’ve built together will carry forward, and I’m excited to see how the next chapter of TIAC unfolds under his guidance.
And while I may be stepping down as president, I’m certainly not stepping away. I look forward to continuing to support Mathieu and the board in my new role as past president, helping to ensure a strong, seamless transition and continued momentum.
Thank you for the opportunity to serve. It’s been an incredible journey—and I’ll continue to cheer for TIAC’s success, now from a new vantage point. ▪
