By / Mathieu Hamel, President, TIAC
Greetings, dear colleagues, from the insulation industry.
It is an honor for me to start this new chapter as president of TIAC. We are embarking on an exciting period together, guided by our renewed strategic plan. I would like to warmly thank my colleague and friend Rob Bertram for his exceptional work over the past two years. These are big shoes to fill, and I will do everything in my power to live up to the challenge.
The theme I chose for my presidency is: “Excellence, Innovation, Unity: Transforming the Industry Together”. This theme builds on the values that define our association. It emphasizes individual growth and collective progress, recognizing that true transformation happens when we unite our strengths to move the industry forward.
Our renewed strategic plan for my term as president is rooted in what has always made us strong: technical excellence, deep collaboration, and a shared drive to raise the bar for the mechanical insulation industry in Canada.
Our industry has a crucial role to play in today’s biggest challenges: energy efficiency, carbon emissions reduction, and sustainable infrastructure. Thermal insulation is not a footnote—it’s a key driver of a smarter, greener future.
Our new strategy focuses on four core priorities:
- championing industry advocacy
- driving innovation in education and training
- delivering greater value and broader engagement for our members
- strengthening national unity and collaboration across the industry
We want to be heard by policymakers, by builders and developers, and by the next generation looking for meaningful careers. We also want to grow as an association with strong governance, a united voice, and measurable impact.
As president, I commit to listening, supporting innovation, and driving our priorities with focus and transparency. I truly believe our strength lies in our network—and that means every one of you. As Henry Ford said: “Coming together is the beginning. Keeping together is progress. Working together is success.”
Thank you for being part of this community. Thank you for your trust and your commitment. I look forward to continuing to work with all of you as we step into this promising new chapter.
Now it’s time for a more personal thanks. First of all, thank you to my wife Sophie and our three children for supporting me since I started in this industry. Thank you to my former partners Patrick and Richard, as well as my current bosses who have always allowed me to take the time to get involved in our provincial and national associations.
Thanks to Daniel Desbiens for giving me a chance 33 years ago, which allowed me to have a career in our industry and also for instilling in me the associated values. Thank you to Rémi Demers for asking me to get involved in TIAC six years ago as the representative from Quebec. Thank you to all the people from Quebec who support me and our provincial and national associations—it touches me deeply.
Finally, a huge thank you to all the members of the board of directors and committees. Without your involvement, TIAC would not be able to move forward. Thanks to Robin for your good work with our group and to Tristan for your exemplary involvement. ▪
